Give the Gift of Home Comfort

HVAC-related home comfort products for a holiday gift? Before you say no way, think about it for a minute. We’re not really talking about a full-scale HVAC system installation here, but rather some of the extras that the person who’s got almost everything may not have. What about a handy home appliance to help a struggling young couple improve their home’s efficiency? Or an appliance to improve indoor air quality for the kids’ sake?

So let’s take a look at our shopping list, and we’re pretty certain you’ll agree, most of us would be thrilled to receive these items this holiday season.

Ceiling Fans

These inexpensive appliances can sure make life more comfortable while helping homeowners cut down on utility bills. Run ceiling fans counterclockwise in the summer, and they move air around so you feel cooler; run them clockwise in winter and they force warm air off the ceiling and down around a room’s occupants — without the need to adjust the thermostat.

Air Cleaner

You’re probably not going to go for a whole-home air cleaning or purifying system as a gift, but some of the portable models really do help improve air quality and are not necessarily very expensive. Filters need to be changed or cleaned for them to be effective, and you will need to read the reviews before you buy, but they can be particularly helpful for allergy sufferers.

Humidifier/Dehumidifier

Again, you probably won’t be springing for a whole-home model of either of these, but portable or console models can make a difference, raising the humidity in winter to moisten dry skin and dry nasal passages and diminish static; dehumidifiers can help dry out damp places and keep mold in check.

Service Inspection

Someone on your gift-giving list may be the type who never schedules an HVAC system inspection. Presenting a certificate for a free inspection might be just what that individual needs to get in the habit of annual preventative maintenance.
