Bug Proof Your Home’s HVAC Units

Bug Proof Your Home’s HVAC UnitsDo you have a problem with bugs and other pests getting inside your home? We can definitely feel your pain. It can be tricky learning how to keep these critters outside where they belong. What can you do to bug proof your home and your home’s HVAC unit?

Here are a few simple tips to get you started:

Seal Your Home

Every home has cracks and gaps in certain places, and that’s exactly how insects get inside. This is especially true with your doors and windows, which should often have a “welcome” sign along them as far as the pests are concerned. Seal these problem areas with caulk, spray foam, or weather stripping, as needed. Also, don’t forget to check your HVAC unit. In addition to clogging up your air filter, which you should replace as needed, bugs can use the system as an expressway into your home. Fix this latter issue by cutting a mesh screen to the right size and taping it over the vents.

Clean Your Yard

If your backyard is cluttered with debris, then look further, because you’ve found the source of your bug problems. Standing water is an issue as well, since several types of insects — including disease-carrying mosquitoes — are attracted by it. The good news is that a simple cleanup will do the job. Cleaning up debris and removing standing water will drastically reduce the number of insects around your home. The same goes for dirt or leftover food inside your home, which will also attract bugs.

Whether it’s sealing up cracks, securing your HVAC unit, or fumigating your home to get rid of an ongoing problem, what you need is the help of a professional. No matter how big your bug problem is, there’s an expert out there who can help you get rid of it.
