The HVAC industry is a dirty and grimy job. But that doesn’t mean you should expect anything less than an outstanding level of HVAC customer service. Like with any other service industry, the customer should be treated with respect and dignity.
Attitude
When starting a relationship with an HVAC professional, you should expect to be greeted with a smile, addressed by name, and listened to. Hearing and listening are not the same thing. The professional should make eye contact, acknowledge your needs and be able to repeat the information back without you prompting them. They should ask pointed questions to get a deeper understanding of your needs. Then they should be able to offer a solution or direct you to the correct place or person.
Transparency
When work is billed by the hour, it’s important to get an accurate and detailed work estimate. This is important, not only for your bank account, but also for the proper level of HVAC customer service. It’s normal for estimates to run a little over or under, depending on whether there were unforeseen complications with the work; however, large differences and unapproved changes can spell disaster. The HVAC professional should contact you as soon as they notice their original estimate was inaccurate, explain what changed, why the work needs to be done, and get your approval before starting the additional projects.
Cleanliness
Customer service is more than a smile and friendly attitude, it’s also project execution, customer education and end job results. As a customer, you should expect your HVAC professional to be neat in appearance, not only in their personal grooming, but also in their office upkeep and while on the job. They should never leave a huge mess behind after completing a project, as doing so is both in poor taste and poor customer service standards.
