These are often used in conjunction with thermographic scans. These utilize infrared video to visualize what parts of your house are warmer or cooler than others. Differences in temperature often point toward a need for extra insulation.

Your audit likely will not result in suggestions that require you to make drastic lifestyle changes; most will be simple and affordable adjustments that will make immediate and noticeable differences. For example, many homes have leaky ductwork that can cause you to lose up to 20 percent of your conditioned air before it ever reaches your living spaces. These can be patched up with duct mastic if they’re in accessible locations.
